To assist others to turn their suffering and pain into an opportunity for redemption. Crucified but risen!Dead but alive! Buried but ascended!
“Be ever ready to tell them the reason for your hope” 1 Peter 3:15
HOPE
“Hear and let it penetrate into your heart, my dear son; let nothing discourage you,
nothing depress you. Let nothing alter your heart or your countenance.
Also do not fear any illness or frustration, anxiety or pain. Am I not your Mother?
Are you not under my mantle and protection? Are you not in the crossing of my arms?
Is there anything else that you need?”
Words of Our Lady of Guadalupe to St. Juan Diego 1531. Mother Mary is the first and most perfect of Tabernacles.
Marian Spirituality
What was said of the first Christians, must be said of us. Our identity as Friars of the Sick Poor must be witnessed by the love and respect we have towards one another and of each friar’s own integrity and personal drive towards one’s own sanctification.
“See how they love one another” John 13:35
FRATERNITY
To have compassion: Your pain and suffering has become my pain and suffering. To share our food and drink with the hungry and thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, bury the dead, comfort the sick and free the imprisoned. “Kyrie Eleison – Christe Eleison”.
“God being rich in mercy… even when we were dead through our sins, made us alive together with Christ” Eph 2:4
MERCY
To restore to wholeness – holiness … to what has been broken. That our relationship with God, self and others is consistent, respectful, fraternal, well-grounded and transparent. 7 X 77 “He who is without sin, cast the first stone” John 8:7
RECONCILATION
To render oneself available in the midst of another’s pain, suffering and loss. To both see in and mirror to the other….The presence-image of Christ. To stand in the midst of the fire with our brother/sister.
“Be still and know that I am God” Ps. 46.
PRESENCE
Friars of the Sick Poor of Los Angeles
Our mission is to give ourselves to God in the service of the sick-poor and marginalized, whom we receive in God’s name. Christ and the Gospel are the Rule and way of life for the friars.
The sick-poor and marginalized mirror to the friars the image of Christ.
Likewise, the friars are to mirror those whom they minister to the compassionate face of Jesus the Christ, as found in the Gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
Our Charism is to assist the sick-poor and marginalized to find meaning in their suffering and sickness as being redemptive, inviting them to a fuller life within the church, a life that life is filled with hope.
The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, strengthen, and support you after you have suffered a little while.

Explore Your Calling
We are in search of men who possess the desire to serve those that are in the greatest need ... the sick poor and marginalized. We seek men who have a Christ-centered spirit within themselves and wish to express their Catholic faith in contemporary and various ways.
We seek dedicated men who will give of themselves entirely in love through service as a Friar of the Sick Poor, remaining always faithful to a lifelong Gospel-centered religious commitment. Men of all ages who want to consider themselves as ..."Sons of Mary — Our Lady of Guadalupe."
The Community is under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, finding confidence in the same words that she spoke to St. Juan Diego: "Am I not here who am your mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Are you not in the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else that you need?"
The friars, out of devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe,
gather annually to renew their vows every year on the vigil of her feast day, Dec. 12.
