FSP 2016 Annual Retreat
Holy Spirit - Encino
The friars held their Annual Retreat at Holy Spirit Retreat Center, March 17 - 20. The theme of the Retreat was based upon Cardinal Mahony's homily which he gave during the Perpetual Profession of Bro. Cesar on Dec. 11, 2015 wherein he stated that "And Mary went in hast to greet her cousin Elizabeth... as the Friars of the Sick Poor go in hast to meet the needs of the sick poor and marginalized which they minister to".... "The friars render themselves poor by giving freely of their time whenever they hear the cry of the poor".... Carnidal Mahony then went on and spoke of the miracles performed by Jesus as recorded in the Gospel of Luke... all of which involved healing.
Fr. Eugenio Cardinas, Missionary of the Holy Spirit and a good friend of fsp also gave a conference to the friars during their retreat titled "Our Lady of Guadalupe: Queen and Mother of Mercy... Health of the Sick Poor". To the friars surprise, Fr. Eugenio brought with him a replica of the Mantle that Mary was wearing during her apparition as Our Lady of Guadalupe... and as part of his presentation invited Bro. Richard to assist him as he "wrapped" each of the friars in Mary's Mantle while both prayed over them. Needless to say... it was a grace filled moment and made this 2016 Year of Mercy retreat one that fsp will long remember.
